Scope of Practice
I have both broad and deep experience as a psychotherapist. Following are some of my specialties:
Consultation: I provide consultation to support you in clarification and assessment of life issues. The initial session is always a consultation in which we decide if we are a good fit.
Adults, couples, families: I assess and work with the dynamics involved in each of these areas of focus.
Older Adults: I have experience working with older adults and the particular issues that need attention later in life.
Students: I work with both graduate and undergraduate students with focus on career, transition, relationship, adjustment, and growth. Learning one's own self at this crucial crossroads is essential.
Post-Addiction Treatment: I have worked in intensive inpatient and out patient recovery programs. I have a grasp of the issues that must be faced when a clean and sober life is sought.
Depression: Treatment explores the causes, triggers, and manifestation of depression.
Psychopharmacology: I often refer to and work in conjuction with prescribing physicians.
Anxiety and Panic: These symptoms can dominate living, and often accompany depression and/or life changes. There are techniques which can put you in control of symptoms while we work.
Crisis: Fear and disorientation are generated in crises. Crisis is a time for knowledgeable support, understanding that the crisis is usually time-limited, but also an opportunity to do good psychological work.
Trauma: Trauma can result from one event, or a series of events. One valuable technique I use in reducing distress is EMDR, used in combination with psychological exploration.
Transition: Changes can bring up unresolved problems. This is an opportunity to explore oneself.
Bipolar Disorder: I have experience working with bipolar disorder.
